General Background

Mr. Ramos has 23 years of experience in law practice, with a strong focus on various legal areas, including commercial litigation, arbitration, banking, and financial law, as well as cryptoassets and technology. His experience spans across various sectors and industries, including banking, finance, blockchain, fintech, and information technology.

Mr. Ramos serves a diverse clientele, which includes banks, other financial entities, regulated and non-regulated companies, security offerings, crypto-exchanges, NFT platforms, crypto applications, crypto funds, token issuers, stablecoin projects, security token platforms, technology firms, and more.

He advises on regulatory matters, particularly in regards to the establishment, operation, and compliance of regulated and non-regulated financial entities and fintech and technology companies. Moreover, Mr. Ramos is well-versed in all legal aspects associated with the adoption of new and disruptive technologies. He also provides legal counsel to both national and international projects and companies concerning the regulatory risks and legal requirements related to blockchain technology and the issuance and operation of various cryptoassets.

Mr. Ramos is recognized by Chambers & Partners, Who’s Who Legal, Best Lawyers and Latin Lawyer in Fintech & Blockchain, Business Law and Litigation.

Practice Area

Diego is an experienced litigator in high profile and complex cases. His practice focuses in the areas of commercial, civil and constitutional litigation (amparo trial), where he has represented both national and international companies, both public, and private. His clients include among others banks, insurance companies, and land developers.

On Arbitration, Diego has successfully represented national and international companies, in complex commercial and construction arbitrations in Mexico, United States and China.

On fintech and cryptoassets, Diego has advised Fintech companies on the regulatory aspects of their constitution and operation. Diego also advises projects and companies in all the regulatory risks and legal requirements of adopting blockchain technology and operating and issuing cryptoassets.

Academic and Professional Activities

Mr. Ramos is a founding partner of the law firm Ramos, Ripoll & Schuster where he leads the Finance & Fintech and Cryptoassets & New Technologies Practice Groups (2006 to date).

Mr Ramos, is currently a professor of Law of Obligations I and II (Contractual Principles and Tort Law), at the Universidad Panamericana, where he has also taught courses in international sale of goods, arbitration, fintech and blockchain.

He was chosen as Mexican delegate for the Global Sales Law Project of the University of Basel, Switzerland.

Translator of national and international judgments related to international sales of goods for the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).

He was the co-founder and President of the Instituto de Enseñanza Práctica del Derecho (IEPRADE), an academic institute, committed for the continuing legal education of both lawyers and non-lawyers.

He is an active member of the Mexican Bar Association, where he has led the civil, commercial, and arbitration committees. Since 2019, he leads the fintech, cryptoasset, and new technologies committee.

Member of the International Chamber of Commerce, where he participates, within the Jalisco Committee of Arbitration.

Mr. Ramos has written numerous law articles and has spoken in several legal, industry, and business organizations on a broad range of blockchain-related topics, as well as in fintech, finance, litigation and international sales of goods.
