General Background
Diego Alvarez joined Ramos Ripoll & Schuster un June, 2012. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Law from Universidad Panamericana, and an LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law from Queen Mary College, University of London (holding a full-scholarship granted by the British Government). Diego has also obtained postgraduate diplomas in International Arbitration, Project Finance and Energy Law. After his studies in London, in 2018, he undertook an international work placement at Clifford Chance.

Practice Area
Diego has provided advice to numerous international and national clients in the negotiation, structuring, financing and execution of diverse and complex large-scale energy and infrastructure operations in Mexico and Latin America.
On infrastructure matters, Diego has participated in all stages of projects such as highways, hospitals, railways, ports, dams, pipelines, and airports. Additionally, Diego boasts substantial experience in public private partnerships, having provided advice to clients in the successful implementation of these schemes at federal, state and municipal levels. He has also assisted various government entities in related matters and was part of the team that drafted state legislation on the subject.
In power industry matters, Diego has assisted multiple clients in al stages of diverse power generation projects with different technologies (solar –at merchant scale and also in distributed generation-, wind, combined-cycle and geothermal). He has also been involved in the construction of transmission lines, substations and other types of electrical infrastructure. Diego consistently provides regulatory advice specialized in the power industry for the structuring of new business models and operations, migration to the wholesale electricity market, detection and mitigation of risks, and due diligence reports for potential acquisitions or sales.
Diego also has extensive experience in arbitration matters, having participated in both commercial and investment procedures as counsel. The procedures have been administered by institutions such as the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce), LCIA (London Court of International Arbitration), CIETAC (China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission), CAM (Centro de Arbitraje de México) y CANACO (Cámara Nacional de Comercio de la Ciudad de México). Disputes in which he has been involved include mainly energy and infrastructure matters, but also commercial disputes derived from international sales, distribution contracts and corporate matters.
Between 2018 and 2019 he undertook an international work placement at Clifford Chance in London, in the project finance and arbitration practices of the firm.

Academic Background
Diego teaches Private International Law at Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) since 2023.
He has written numerous articles on energy, infrastructure, arbitration, and public private partnerships. He regularly participates as speaker and guest in conferences, seminars, and programs related to these matters in Mexico and in Latin America.
